Milk rates increase in Karachi by Rs20
The retail price of milk was increased in Karachi by Rs20 a litre on Tuesday despite an increase in petrol prices in the country. The new rate of per litre milk is now Rs200.
According to the Karachi commissioner notification, the selling price for the dairy farmer was Rs180/litre, Rs188/litre for wholesalers, and Rs200/litre for retailers.
The new rates would consequently have an effect on the rates of other dairy products, which are also some of the important items for breakfast.
It merits here to mention that many retailers were selling milk at Rs230 per litre in Karachi. In June this year, stakeholders raised the price of retail fresh milk by raising Rs10 a litre.
Many had wondered the reasons for the increase as the caretaker government last month decreased the prices of petrol by Rs8 and diesel by Rs11 respectively, following a fortnightly revision. The impact of fuel rates on basic commodities is a common factor in the country.
