Gang busted: Online selling app becomes a snare for robbery victims
The police in Karachi have arrested a gang involved in snatching vehicles and other valuables from victims whom they trapped using an online sale/purchase application.
Five members of the gang were arrested from Surjani Town, in Karachi West, while a sixth member of the gang managed to escape.
Police officials said the accused have been identified as Asif alias Burger (gang leader), Rameez, Umar, Daniyal, Sarfaraz, Ali Raza, and Wajid (fugitive). They used to lure people to designated spots on the pretext of purchasing mobile phones, laptops, and other accessories.
The online snares were laid using IDs with female names, according to the police.
Moreover, the gang also looted dozens of people outside the ATMs.
Police said that Asif is the gang leader and facilitator who provided motorcycles and weapons to the other gang members.
The gang robbed people in the Central and West districts and the victims included women.
The accused are also involved in a murder case as they had opened fire during a robbery in Surjani town sector 7/A.
Cases were registered against them at several police stations in Karachi including Hydri, Soldier Bazar, New Karachi, and Khawaja Ajmer Nagri Police Station.
