Four suspects arrested in killing of religious leader: sources
At least four suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a religious leader in Karachi, sources told Aaj News and quoted police as saying that Maulana Zia-ur-Rehman was “killed over by robbers over resistance.”
The suspects were arrested with their weapons, sources said, adding that the weapons and the 11 shells of the bullet found from the site of the incident have matched.
They were named Zubair, Yaseen, Haq Nawaz Gopang, and Umair.
Rehman was killed while he was going for a walk in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar on September 12. He was a leader at the Jamia Abubakar Al-Islamia.
It merits here to mention that nothing was taken away from the victim when he was killed.
The police in initial investigations had said that they had found evidence related to the involvement of the Indian intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), behind the murder.
The case for the murder was registered on the complaint of the victim’s cousin Muhammad Abdullah at the Shahrah-e-Faisal Police Station.
