The first case under the Animal Act 1890 was registered against a resident of Lahore who was allegedly found involved in animal cruelty.

The first information report was registered on the complaint of an official from the police animal rescue centre in the Township police station stating that a resident of Lahore identified as Shakeel has animals and birds on his home’s rooftop.

When the centre’s team learned about the existence of animals on information from his neighbour, they raided his residence and commenced inspections where they found that he had no proper arrangements for animal feeding and the animals were eating dead birds and bones.

The team shifted the animals to the police animal rescue centre where they were being treated.

The police vowed to protect the animals from harm and said they would take action against those who captured animals and imprisoned them.
