A religious cleric put a nailpin in the mouth of a child and forced him to swallow it as a punishment in Multan. A case was registered against him and he also confessed to his crime.

Muhammad Shahid, who teaches at the madrasa located in the Kukkar Hatta of Multan, said in his confession statement that he used to punish children in this way and it never proved harmful to them.

However, five-year-old Haroon was badly injured. He was punished for his failure to remember the lesson properly. Shahid shouted at him and put two nail pins in his mouth, he spat one but another swallowed the other.

The first information report registered under section 324 (Attempted to murder) of the Pakistan penal code stated that Haroon started vomiting when he returned home and was facing breathing problems.

The FIR added that the cleric admitted to his act and claimed that nailpin would not harm the child.

Haroon was being treated in Nashtar Hospital Multan.
