Arts become source of earning for inmates
Thousands of prisoners in Karachi’s central jail, besides serving their sentences, are earning livelihood for their families.
Jails seem a dangerous place by their very name, but Karachi Central Jail is not a place where people are subjected to forced labour. People who live here are working on their skills. It would not be wrong to say that this jail is producing artists.
Behind the bars, there is an art department, which looks more like an art and handcraft gallery than a jail barrack. Pieces of handcraft with eye-catching pearls grip the viewer’s attention immediately.
Apprentices and skilled inmates have remorse about their past and now they want to spend a normal life after serving their terms.
