Saudi Arabia condemns storming of the Al-Aqsa mosque
The Saudi ministry of foreign affairs has condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa mosque by a group of Israeli occupation forces.
The ministry in a statement affirmed that these actions were a blatant violation of all international norms and conventions, and an attempt to provoke the feelings of Muslims around the world.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds the Israeli occupation forces fully responsible for the repercussions of these continued violations.
On September 17, Israeli forces attacked Palestinian Muslim worshippers at Bab as-Silsila, one of the main entrances to the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in East Jerusalem, Al Jazeera quoted local sources as saying.
The Israeli forces ejected Muslim worshippers from Al-Aqsa mosque and intensified their presence around it, while any Palestinian below the age of 50 was denied access in an attempt to clear the way for Israeli settlers on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
The ministry urged the international community to assume its responsibilities to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian land, provide the necessary protection for civilians, and exert all efforts to end the conflict.
The statement came a day after reports that Saudi Arabi told the US administration of its decision to suspend all dialogues on normalisation of relations with Israel due to its unwillingness to make any concessions to the Palestinians.
According to a report by Saudi-owned newspaper, Riyadh forwarded the message through the US. It said that the “extremist” nature of Israel’s right-wing government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is diminishing the possibility of addressing the issues of Palestinians.
