The pair of actors Jamal Shah and Faryal Gohar was one of the loved ones in Pakistan. The pair later split due to reasons known to them. But Shah spoke about his first marriage in an interview with Aaj News on Saturday.

“There was not a special issue, I am a little laidback person, if the bulb is going to fuse, so it should be, I don’t worry and relax. Faryal is more organised. So maybe because of this difference,” he told Shaukat Piracha on his show Rubaroo.

“Otherwise we shared a lot of things, political ideas, and studies. So there was nothing. I was an impractical person and she was more practical. If she was less practical or I was more practical then maybe there wouldn’t have been any problem, but I wish her well,” Shah, who is also the federal minister for National Heritage and Culture.

He was responding to a query about whether the power couple was not flexible in their marriage.

Shah shared that he met Faryal at a rally when he was studying at the National College of Arts in Lahore.

He told this scribe. “I was preparing for my thesis in the NCA in 1982. In Pakistan’s history, the biggest rally of the trade union was held at the 7up factory in Lahore. For this, the trade union leaders came to me as I had gained popularity as a few months back we saved the NCA from the state police. There were efforts to shut down the college. We defended it and for the first time a rally was organised,” he said.

When the demands were not met, Shah said that he along with his friends went on hunger strike. But on the second day the police took them, he said, and put them behind bars in Old Anarkali Jail. “Our principal pleaded with us to not do this, but I was determined to defend the college.”

After midnight, the police kept them in armoured vehicle. The police them to a location and asked them to get out of the car. The police loaded guns and asked them to march in front of an army vehicle and we didn’t have to turn back. “We crossed half a path and policemen laughed and went away. When we reached that car it was an old damaged truck.”

Later, they came to know that it was a jungle on the Kasur Road.

“We returned to the city while following the police van route. So that event made us heroes.”

He said that because of this event, the trade union came to him. “We just organised the rally. Madiha was supposed to come, but Faryal came to the rally. I painted for 7up, we played music and had a theatre play. Amidst this, some of the partners suggested having Ajoka theatre.”
