Says the letter was written on direction of PTI chief Imran Khan

Former attorney general Ashtar Ausaf has said that President Arif Alvi’s letter to the chief of Election Commission of Pakistan will have devastating effects on Pakistan.

“Everyone will shy away from investing in stock exchange. We are already going through an economic uncertainty and now you [president] are driving us towards political instability,” he told Asma Shirazi on Faisla Aap Ka.

It is pertinent to mention that President Alvi on Wednesday proposed that the election in the country should be held on November 6.

However, he also conceded that the authority to make the announcement probably did not lie with him and suggested that stakeholders should seek guidance from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

According to Ausaf the president’s letter was similar to his tweet about the assent to the Official Secret Act 2023 and Army Act 2023.

For Ausaf, the president wrote the letter on the direction of former prime minister Imran Khan in an attempt to create political instability.

“The aim is create an atmosphere where the elections are made controversial. This is pre-poll rigging,” he stated.

Former Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that all political parties have been part of the attempts to delay elections.

“They [political parties] are delaying elections because they are afraid of facing the people. They want time so that their opponent becomes weaker and his hardships are increased,” he added.
