A Russian airline made an emergency landing in a Siberian field on Tuesday due to a suspected hydraulic system failure, officials said.

“Ural Airlines A320 makes emergency landing in a field near Kamenka, Novosibirsk region, Siberia. All passengers and crew evacuated safely,” said Breaking Aviation News & Videos on X, formerly known as Twitter. “All passengers and crew evacuated safely.”

The flight carrying 159 passengers and six crew was en route from Sochi to Omsk when it had to land in a field in the Ubinsky district, Novosibirsk Oblast.

Authorities released footage of the Ural Airlines plane in a field next to a forest in the Novosibirsk region, saying there were no casualties.

Officials did not share specific details of the incident but said it occurred due to a suspected hydraulic system failure. Emergency crews responded to the incident.

Authorities were reported to be sending buses to the affected site to evacuate passengers and take them to nearby schools and culture centres.

Radar data indicated that the aircraft made an approach to Omsk but then conducted a go around and tracked east before making the emergency landing.

Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on the violation of air traffic safety rules, according to Euro News. It said the aircraft made the emergency landing “for a technical reason.”

On 15 August 2019, Ural Airlines Flight 178 suffered a bird strike after takeoff from Zhukovsky Airport and successfully landed in a cornfield, five kilometres away.
