Mill owners agree to sell sugar for Rs140 per kg
Talks between sugar mill owners and Punjab government finally led to a a breakthrough after three days of talks on Sunday.
A delegation of sugar mill owners met caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday where an greement was finally reached.
The mill owners have agreed to sell sugar to the government at the rate of Rs140 per kilogram.
Naqvi said that the sugar acquired from the owners will be sold at Itwar bazars and model bazars. He added that the mill owners had agreed to start crushing season on October 28.
The chief minister said that the agreement on brices will directly benefit the consumers.
The agreement comes days after the price of sugar rose to as high as Rs200 across the country. Official statistics had also admitted that sugar was being sold for as much as Rs200 in many cities, with massive increases in a single week.
