A private security guard who says he was responding to reports of robbery killed two passersby in Karachi on Friday.

A man later identified as Shafqat Hussain and a woman identified as Shazia were shot dead near the Naval Colony in Karachi’s Baldia area.

Police have arrested three private security guards from the scene.

The shots were fired by one of them and he told the police that he had heard there was a robbery attempt.

However, Senior Superintendent of Police Arif Aslam Rao told reporters that there was no indication of a robbery or terrorism attempt.

The police were also probing the possibility that personal enmity was behind the killings, he said.
