Two arrested for trying to dig through Great Wall of China
Two suspects who were severely damaged in the Great Wall of China to ease their work have been arrested by the police.
A 38-year-old man, with a woman 55-year-old, was digging a part of the Wall using professional tools which made a part unable beyond restoration. The investigation has been started following their detention.
They dug a large gap by extending the cavity of the Great Wall so that their excavator could pass through it. According to the police they wanted to reduce their thoroughfare for travel.
The 32nd Great Wall is a section of the Ming Great Wall and is categorised as a historical and cultural site which is protected at the provincial level.
Police stressed that the two irreversibly damaged the integrity of the Wall and the safety of cultural relics.
The investigation revealed that a part of the Great Wall became damaged when some people attempted to dig it at about 4:00 P.m. The suspects were workers in the construction company to ease their travel.
However, the Wall will not be restored to its original state due to irreparable damage.
