While the supply and billing of electricity have already affected people across the country, new concerns have arisen for people who installed solar panels at their homes.

Not only will the people using solar panels have to pay higher bills, the sales of solar panels could also be affected across the country.

The government had originally hoped to take 30% of the country’s electricity generation to renewable sources by 2030.

A key part of this was encouraging consumers to install solar panels at their homes. In 2015, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority created the net metering policy that accelerated the adoption of solar panels across the country.

However, the government is about to alter the policy after hundreds and thousands of households adopted solar panels.

If the rates are indeed revised, the large investments people made in installing solar panels could go to waste.

The policy shift could also lead to businesses who manufacture soalr panels be affected.

Net Metering allowed users to sell excess electricity to the government, however, it led to problems for the government as it led to an inflation of per unit cost of electricty provided by IPPs.
