The wet weather has prompted the management of the regional cricket management to shift the venues of Asia Cup matches from Kandy and Colombo to Hambantota, sources told Aaj News.

They added that the Asian Cricket Council would soon make an announcement in this regard.

The development comes after reports that PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf proposed holding the remaining matches of the Asia Cup in Pakistan or the United Arab Emirates amid continuous rains in Sri Lanka.

In a telephonic conversation with Board of Control for Cricket in India Secretary Jay Shah, the two discussed the rain-affected India-Pakistan match in Sri Lanka.

The Khettarama ground is scheduled to host five Super Four games and the final between September 6 and 17.

Earlier, ESPNcricinfo reported that the organising body was considering moving Asia Cup games in the Super Four round away from the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.

On September 2, rain washed out the high-voltage contest between Pakistan and India played at the Pallakele Stadium in Sri Lanka. Both sides shared one point as Pakistan qualified for the Super 4s with the shared point.
