Train tickets get expensive after petroleum prices hike
Soon after the government announced a hike in the prices of petroleum products, the Pakistan Railways increased the fares by around 5% on Friday.
The increase in the fares will be effective from Saturday, September 2, according to which the luggage and parcel charges have also been increased by 5% after the petroleum prices hike.
The railways department increased the ticket prices for express, passenger and intercity trains.
It is pertinent to mention that this is the second increase in fares within 15 days. The train ticket prices were hiked by 10% on August 16.
The price of petrol broke the Rs300 per litre mark for the first time in the country’s history as the government increased petroleum prices.
The caretaker government announced an increase of Rs14.91 in the price of petrol, taking the price to Rs305.36.
The price of diesel was increased by Rs18.44 to Rs311.84.
