Wildlife dept books five after lion escaped from vehicle in Karachi
The wildlife department of Sindh filed the first information report against five people including the owner of the lion which suddenly appeared on Shahrah-e-Faisal on August 29.
Wildlife inspector Ali Ejaz nominated Shams ul Haq, Yafay, Ubaid, and Murtaza in the complaint.
“We were informed that a lion was roaming on Shahrah-e-Faisal near Ayesha Bawani College. We reached the spot after receiving information and handed over the lion to the Karachi Zoo after rescuing it,” he said.
The suspects were moving the lion and a turtle illegally in a car when the lion escaped and wandered on the road large crowd gathered to see the spectacle.
Meanwhile, the wildlife department produced the five arrested suspects before the district and session court South. They were arrested a day earlier after the lion they were moving in a vehicle, escaped and attacked a man as well who fortunately remained safe.
An initial statement from the police said that the lion was being moved in a vehicle, but it escaped through the window. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.
The lion was eventually caught after it roamed around the Shahrah-e-Faisal for a small time. It was then shifted to the wildlife office in a cage.
Baqar took notice of the incident and asked for report to be submitted. He also questioned who had granted permission to keep such an animal in a residential area of the city.
