Pakistan go up 1-0 after beating Afghanistan in first match of ODI series

Pakistan cricket team thrashed the Afghan side in the first ODI international in the three-match series thanks to a brilliant bowling spell of pace Harif Rauf.

The Afghan was back in the pavilion after scoring 59 runs as Pakistan secured a 142-run victory in Hambantota in southern Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

They were set a target of 202 in 50 overs after sending all of the green team back to the pavilion on 201 runs. This is the first time Afghanistan has gotten Pakistan all-out in ODIs.

Haris Rauf delivered a brilliant bowling spell as he claimed a five-wicket haul, Shaheen Shah Afridi took two wickets while Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan claimed one wicket each.

Pakistan dismissed nine players of the opponent team for 59 runs in 19.2 overs while one of the players retired hurt. Five Afghan batters were removed for duck and only two could enter the double-digit score.

Earlier, Pakistan opted to bat first and managed to post 201 runs on the board owing to brilliant bowling from Afghan bowlers. Opening batter Fakhar Zaman was removed after scoring two runs while skipper Babar Azam departed for a duck.

Opener Imam ul Haq tried to build the score after early losses as he smashed 61 off 94 before being sent back to the dugout by Mohammad Nabi.

Wicket-keeping batter Muhammad Rizwan made 21 runs while Shahdab Khan scored 39 and Iftikhar Ahmed added 30 to the total.

Afghanistan’s Mujeebur Rahman took three wickets while Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi claimed two wickets each as they removed the batting lineup of Pakistan in the 48th over.
