Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party Spokeperson Firdous Ashiq Awan called for President Arif Alvi to be tried under Article 6 for treason over his statement denying assent for the Official Secrets Act and Army Act.

In a post on X on Sunday, Awan said Alvi’s statement had hurt the sanctity of the ‘supreme office’ that Alvi held.

She added that the office of the president was a sysmbol of the unity of the federation and a guardian of the consitution.

Awan said that Alvi’s statement had sent out a ‘negative’ message to the world that no document was worth trusting in Pakistan.

She added that Alvi had tainted his office with the revelations and must be tried under Article 6.

Eralier on Sunday, Alvi had claimed that he never gave his assent to the two bills on Saturday that led to the arrests of Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

He claimed that he had told his staff to return the bills but his orders had been defied.
