The PTI is finalising petitions to challenge the decisions taken in the Council of Common Interests and a delay in holding elections, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said.

“The PTI has decided that we will challenge what we are seeing as a delaying tactic [in holding elections] in the Supreme Court,” he said during a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday.

The PTI legal team is finalising the petitions to challenge the decisions and soon these petitions will be submitted in the courts, Qureshi added.

Senator Ali Zafar is finalising the petition on behalf of the PTI to hold elections in 90 days, he said, adding that Salman Akram Raja has almost completed Imran Khan’s petition against the decisions taken in the CCI meeting.

“We even think the composition of CCI is illegal and unconstitutional as there were two personalities in the council who were interim chief ministers. They could not be made part of such a meeting,” he added.

“Constitution is very clear in holding elections in 90 days. If you cross the 90-day deadline, it will be an unconstitutional step,” the PTI vice chairman stated.

He also refuted the reports of local media that the PTI leaders exchanged harsh words during party meetings soon after the arrest of its chief.

“A media house especially tried to create ambiguity about [PTI] core committee disagreements and raise questions on the legal team. Everyone knows and I especially know how our legal team is working during hard times,” Qureshi said.

He dubbed the reports part of a conspiracy to create confusion in the ranks and files of the party with the intention to spread disinformation.

Qureshi said that Imran Khan will remain the chairman of the PTI, saying “No one can replace him and nobody is even trying to replace him.”
