Pakistan Army aviation helicopters rescued five foreign mountaineers and a local guide who were stranded at peaks near K2 base camp, Concordia, and Shigar in Gilgit Baltistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

“Aviation helicopters of the Pakistan Army conducted the operations and rescued the foreign climbers, and a local guide,” said a statement from the military’s media wing.

Four British climbers were rescued from an icy-mountain line of Concordia. They were named George Hurst, David Coop, Stephen Ryan and Darren Corby. Meanwhile, a Polish national mountaineer, Adam, and a local guide, Muhammad Iqbal, were also rescued from a 17,000ft peak in Shigar.

“All five climbers and a local guide were stranded during their mission on August 17. Mountaineers have had injuries when they were rescued and they were unable to breathe better. Pakistan Army was providing medical aid to them,” stated the statement.

The statement added that foreign mountaineers expressed gratitude for the rescue effort of the army.
