A division bench onf the Islamabad High Court rejected petitions to suspend Imran Khan’s jail sentence on Wednesday.

The two member bench consisted of Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri.

Imran’s lawyers appealed for the jail sentence to be suspended. However, the court refused an immediate end to the jail term and issued notices to all parties for further hearing.

The former prime minister was convicted of ‘corrupt practices’ in the Toshakhana case by an Islamabad sessions court on August 5. Although the order was announced in Islamabad, Imran was arrested minutes later from his Lahore residence.

Sentenced to three years in jail, Imran is currently incarcerated in Attock Jail.

On the other hand, the Supreme Court also stopped authorities from arresting Imran Khan in the Quetta lawyer murder case till August 24.

Abdul Razaq Shar, who was a petitioner in a treason case against Imran, was gunned down in Quetta in June. The case for his murder had nominated Imran as the main suspect.
