Senate passes resolution for holding elections on time
The Senate has passed a resolution demanding that the general election in the country be held on time, without any delays.
The resolution, which was moved by Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, came amid reports that the election could be delayed until early 2024.
Under the time frame stipulated in the law, the election must be held within 90 days of the dissolution of the National Assembly, which completes its term this week.

The resolution passed by the Senate on Wednesday said that elections must be held within the stipulated time and that the caretaker government can only make day-to-day decisions.
Conducting elections is not a prerogative of the Election Commission, it is a constitutional duty, it said.
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarrar said the Election Commission should conduct the election according to the constitution.
