Maid torture case: Rizwana to have plastic surgery

Doctors had said that her skull bone was exposed after a head injury

Caretaker Punjab Health Minister Dr Javed Akram has said that Rizwana has been shifted to a private room from the intensive care unit and is set to have plastic surgery.

He reiterated his full support to Rizwana, an underaged maid who was allegedly beaten up by a civil judge’s wife, during his visit to the Lahore General Hospital on Monday.

Earlier, the medical board which was treating Rizwana, said her medical condition has deteriorated after her skull was exposed due to a head injury.

The medical board at Lahore’s General Hospital has told that her skull has been exposed after her skin was badly damaged.

It went on to add that the members are consulting whether to hand over Rizwana to a plastic surgeon or take him on board to address her medical condition and a decision will be taken quickly in this regard. Meanwhile, the doctors are taking all measures to protect her skull bone, the board added.

On the other hand, Postgraduate Medical Institute’s Principal Al Fareed Zafar said that Rizwana’s condition is getting better as she eats three meals a day while her mental condition has also improved.

The infection in her body is decreasing while physiotherapy has helped in relaxing her muscle spasm, he said, adding that no blood has been given to her in the last two days.

Rizwana, 13, was allegedly brutally tortured by a civil judge’ wife Somia at the Zarta Housing Society. She was working at a salary of Rs10,000 per month.

The initial medical report said that she had 15 wounds on her body including a wound on the head. It also added that her internal organs had also sustained damage. It was later reported that she was also poisoned.

Later, a case was filed against the civil judge’s wife in Islamabad for allegedly beating up a minor house help and keeping her confined against her will.

The case was filed by Manga Khan, the father of the victim, in Islamabad’s Humak police station.

On August 1, a district and sessions court in Islamabad approved the interim bail of Somia Asim, till August 7 in the maid torture case. She is accused of beating and torturing her 13-year-old maid.

Somia was arrested from the court premises on Monday after a district and session court rejected her bail plea in the maid torture case and ordered the police to take her into custody.
