“The decisions of the judiciary are creating such conditions that the girl’s parents would have to give in” to oppression, said Defense Khawaja Asif responding to the reports that the wife of a civil judge had been granted in the maid torture case.

The underage maid, Rizwana, who was seriously injured due to the alleged torture at the hand of the civil judge’s wife, is undergoing treatment at the Lahore General Hospital.

On Tuesday, the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad granted interim bail till August 7 to Soumya Asim, the main accused in the Rizwana torture case who is a wife of a civil judge, on a bond of Rs 1 lakh.

In a tweet, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif criticized the court’s decision.

The federal minister said that the decisions of the judiciary were creating such conditions that the girl’s parents would be forced to give in to this oppression.

He further wrote that there exists a community where even if their member oppresses other people, the oppressor is still forgiven.

Khawaja Asif further said in the tweet that there is no community of the poor that can shelter them and that the state is a shelter for the wealthy.

However, the minister drew flak from social media users who reminded Asif that he was a minister of the government and could use his powerful position to provide shelter to the poor family.

It should be noted that on Tuesday, the main accused in the Rizwana torture case approached the District and Sessions Court Islamabad for pre-arrest bail.

In the application filed in the court, it was said that Soumya never tortured Rizwana and that the court should approve the bail application of the accused before arrest.

It was stated in the petition that the petitioner is educated and is the wife of a civil judge. It further stated that it is true that Rizwana used to work at the home of the petitioner with her parent’s consent but apart from that whatever is recorded in the FIR was s a lie.

The petition stated that Rizwana is 17 years old, and Soumya always treated her gently and in the same manner as she treated her three children aged between 7 and 12 years.
