The Pakistan-India clash in the group stage of the ODI World Cup is expected to be rescheduled to October 14, a day earlier than originally planned, Indian Today reported.

“Further adjustments to the World Cup schedule are anticipated, and the official announcement regarding these changes is expected to be made on July 31 [today],” it said.

The report comes a week after Board of Control for Cricket in India Honorary Secretary Jay Shah hinted at a change in the schedule of the ODI World Cup in view of the letters from three boards to the ICC.

Just the dates and times of the matches would be altered in order to decrease the gap to four to five days, he said, however, Shah did not share the names of the members who requested a timetable change.

“We are working out with the ICC, and we should be able to clear it in two or three days,” he said on July 28, referring to the governing International Cricket Council.

Earlier, the Ahmedabad police had expressed concerns about ensuring security on October 15 when the two archrivals were scheduled to play, as on the same the day country would be celebrating the Navratri festival.

It was viewed that it could be difficult for the authorities to manage security.

As expected, the rescheduled announcement raised concerns among fans and stakeholders. Since the two sides have not played a bilateral series for more than 10 years, the hype for such clashes in mega events was always high.

Much to the Pakistani fans’ disappointment, India hold a 7-0 head-to-head record against Pakistan in ODI World Cup history. But the Green Shirts break the jinx in T20 World Cup in 2021.
