Two bogies of goods train detached from engine near Faisalabad

Driver was unaware till 3km

Two bogies of a Faisalabad-bound goods train detached from the engine near Chak Jhumra Railway Station on Saturday while the driver was unaware of the incident and the train kept on chugging along for at least three kilometres.

Sources said that the railway avoided a major disaster after the guard called the driver. The goods train was coming from Sangla Hill in the Nankana Sahib district.

They added that the bogies were re-attached to the engine after the train returned from driving for three kilometres. According to sources, the driver did not know about the separation. He got to know about the development when a guard phoned him.

The train was dispatched after it was re-connected to the bogies.

Earlier this week, the guard of a goods train was wounded when it’s locomotive and six wagons derailed at the Kalanchwala Railway Station on the Sammsatta-Dera Nawab Sahib section, about 25km from Bahawalpur.

The goods train was loaded with urea and headed for Lahore from Karachi.

Railway officials were of the view that two reasons might have led to the incident. The driver might have failed to apply brakes or the point man made a mistake, leading the train to overshot and collide with the dead end at the railway station. Eventually, the engine and bogies derailed.
