After backlash from multiple incidents of desecration of the Holy Quran, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has expressed a fear that it could lead to ‘something serious’.

In an interview with Swedish news agency TT, Kristersson said that the police had received more requests for persmissions to be granted for protests involving desecration of the Holy Quran.

“If they are granted, we are going to face some days where there is a clear risk of something serious happening,” he said.

“I am extremely worried about what it could lead to.”

However, he added that the actions fall within ‘the framework of freedom of speech laws’ and that granting the permission was upto the police.

However, he also added that there was ‘Russia-backed’ campaign to imply that the country supported the acts of desecration.

“These events are then retold in an inaccurate way, sometimes with direct calls to hurt our country,” he continued.

The Swedish government’s problems are exacerbated by the views of Sweden Democrats party, which helps keep it in power. The party has campaigned against the Islamisation of the country.
