An Indian man and his wife have been nominated in a police complaint for allegedly selling off their child in order to buy an iPhone.

Jaydev Ghosh and Sathi are residents of Barrackpore in West Bengal and wanted to have a good quality phone to shoot reels for social media. To arrange the money they sold off their eight-month-old child to a woman.

It was the couple’s neighbors who got suspicious after finding an iPhone in their possession and reported the matter to the police.

The police sprang into action and arrested Sathi, the mother, as well as the woman who the child was sold to. However, the father of the child has still not been arrested.

The police also found the child with a woman named Priyanka Ghosh, who lived in the same district.

During interrogation, Sathi confessed to the crime and said she and her husband wanted to use the money to go around the state and make Instagram reels, police said.

The couple allegedly tried to sell off their other child, a seven-year-old daughter, but the plan could not reach fruition.
