Minority legislator says he received threats over Seema Haider case

"Did we chase Seema away," asks Danesh Kumar

The Seema Haider saga made its way on to the floor of parliament on Wednesday as a minority lawmaker said he was receiving threats from dacoits over the matter.

Danesh Kumar, a senator belonging to the Balochistan Awami Party, told the joint session of parliament on Wednesday that dacoits in Sindh were openly issuing threats that Seema should be brough back or the province’s Hindus should go to India.

Kumar added that he himself had been sent a threatening video by the dacoits as well.

The senator said that minorities made up the white portion of Pakistan’s flag and the Hindu community had made numerous sacrifices for Pakistan. He also said that it was the state’s responsibility to provide security.

“Did we chase Seema away? Did we call Anju here?” he asked.

Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz’s minority member Kesoo Mal Kheeal Das also took the floor to demand an operation against the dacoits. He said that Pakistan was his country and he wanted the country to protect its children.

Jamat-e-Islami’s Maulana Akbar Chitrali said that the minorities were guaranteed rights under the constitution. He added that the matter was about Pakistan not just the Hindu community.

Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf added that the JI would help protect Hindu places of worship and that the whole assembly stood with the minorities.
