Mother of two, Anju has only basic school education, says husband in India

Arvind tells reporters Anju left on the pretext of Jaipur visit, expects her to come back

Anju, who traveled from India to Upper Dir in Pakistan to be with the man she loves, had told her husband in India that she was going to Jaipur, it emerged on Monday.

Anju’s husband, Arvind, has offered new details about his wife – a mother of two children including a teenage daughter – who has only basic school education up to 10th grade.

Arvid spoke to India Today and BBC Hindi after the news broke about his wife crossing the international border for love. The news comes days after Seema, a Pakistani woman, went across the border to India.

Arvind and Anju were married and lived with their two children in Bhiwadi, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Anju had converted to Christianity to be with her Arvind.

Anju had a passport made in 2020 as she wanted to find work outside of India. However, when she recently left home she told her husband that she was going to Jaipur for a few days.

On Sunday, she called to tell him she was actually across the border in Lahore but would be back soon.

He later found out that she had reached Upper Dir to be with Nasrullah, a 29-year-old man she had met on Facebook a few years ago.

Indian media quoted Arvind as saying that he ‘had knowledge’ of Anju being with Nasrullah, but still hoped she would come back.

Speaking with BBC Hindi, Arvind said he and Anju tied the knot in 2007 and they have two children, a daughter, 15, and a young son. Both of them are in school.

Arvid says he studied up to 12th grade while Anju only passed the 10th grade. She worked at a local firm as a data entry operator.

The man said he never checked Anju’s mobile phone fearing that such an act could hurt their marriage.
