Pakistan has condemned another planned event of desecration of the Holy Quran as an ‘Islamophobic act’.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Office said that the recurrence of such incidents is ‘legally and morally reprehensible’ and hurts the sentiments of two billion muslims across the world.

“Permission to carry out premeditated and provocative acts of religious hatred cannot be justified under the guise of freedom of expression, opinion and protest,” the statement said.

MOFA added that international law called upon states to prevent acts that deliberately incite hatred and encourage violence on the basis of religious differences.

The statement also said that the international community should not only condemn the incident but also “isolate those who stoke religious hatred, build deterrence and promote mutual respect, tolerance and harmony among religions, faiths and cultures.”

“We expect the Swedish authorities to take all measures necessary to stop such acts of hatred and incitement,” the statement added. “Pakistan’s concerns about the latest incident are being conveyed to the Swedish authorities.”

The Prime Minister Office also issued a strong condemnation of the incident and called upon the OIC to play its role to represent the Muslim ummah’s concerns to the world.

The PMO statement added that international law does not allow for such incidents of hatred and muslims and christians across the world would have to work together to end their recurrence.

Sweden recently gave permission for another protest that invovled descreatio of Quran to take place.
