Many people beat motorcycle lifters in Karachi on Thursday when they were on board with the bikes being lifted from “no-parking” areas, police said.

“People present there tortured the staff while lifting the motorcycle,” DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz said in a statement. “People also took down the motorcycle that had been lifted after being subjected to violence.”

The footage, which went viral on social media, showed a group of people stopping the motorcycle lifters vehicle in Karachi’s Saddar area. They were seen kicking and punching the two men, who were supposed to lift the motorcycles.

Illegal motorcycle parking is the major cause of traffic jams at Sadar, Zeib-Nisa Street, Abdullah Haroon Road, Regal, and Mobile Market, according to Nawaz.

The DIG traffic said that action would be taken against those who tortured the staff. “Most of the citizens park their motorcycles wrongly, due to which traffic jams have become the norm,” he said.

Unnecessary vehicle parking at Empress Market, Mobile Market, and adjoining markets leads to traffic jams, the DIG added. Such vehicles were also lifted and fined.
