Islamabad police announced on Sunday that the main suspect in the Islamabad hiking trail rape case has been arrested.

Police said that the suspect had been arrested after an investigation on ‘technical basis’.

The police had earlier claimed that the woman who filed the rape case was not cooperating with the police. THey had also claimed that the rape allegations had not been proven in initial investigation and that the woman was ‘friends’ with the alleged culprit.

The case had been filed on Friday, after a woman approached Kohsar police station claiming that she had been lured to Islamabad with the promise of a job. She claimed that instead of a work meeting she was taken to hiking trail-3 in the Margalla Hills and raped at gunpoint.

She had said that the she had been threatened with death if she screamed for help.

She had filed the complaint in Kohsar Police Station and had also asked for a medical examination to prove her allegations.
