Five Pakistani athletes test positive for banned substance

The athletes include two female gold medalists

Five Pakistani athletes, including two female gold medalists tested positive in the dope test conducted by the Anti-doping Organisation of Pakistan of Pakistan Sports Board.

The test conducted by the authorities revealed that two female and three male athletes used prohibited substances aimed at rapid improvement in performance.

The athletes included triple gold medalist sprinter Ehsha Imran, who is also part of the national squad for the Asian Athletics Championship and Rabia Ashiq who won two gold medals in 800 metres and 4X400m relay in the 34th National Games.

Sprinter Uzair Rehman and Naeem Akhtar were also among the athletes who tested positive for the use of steroids. Additionally, Muhammad Tahir in the weightlifting category also test positive in the dope test.

The latest revelation of the athletes testing positive in the dope test pose significant threats to the future of their professional careers as they may be banned for competing in international games.

The scandal also raised concerns regarding the competency of the Pakistan Athletic Federation who seems to have failed to stop the use of steroid by the athletes.
