Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir is in Iran on a two-day official visit to discuss bilateral matters related to defence and security cooperation, Inter Services Public Relation said.

The Army Chief will meet Iranian military and civilian leadership during his visit to the neighboring country.

Embassy of Iran in Islamabad in a tweet welcomed the arrival of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir to Iran.

“The visit indicates firm determination of high officials of Iran and Pakistan to promote all-out relations,” it wrote on Twitter.

The visit comes after a group of terrorists launched an attack on Zhob Garrison in Northern Balochistan on July 12.

At least nine soldiers were martyred during the terror attack, Inter-Services Public Relation said.

COAS Munir visited Quetta Garrison on June 14 where he was briefed on the terrorist attack in Zhob.

After his visit, the ISPR in a statement expressed concerns about the “safe havens and liberty of action” available to the outlawed terrorist group TTP in Afghanistan.

“It is expected that the interim Afghan government would not allow the use of its soil to perpetrate terror against any country, in the real sense and in line with commitments made in the Doha Agreement,” it added.
