The docu-series Cornered Tigers: The 1992 Story is released on an online platform, Tapmad, giving a treat to cricket aficionados. Pakistan under the captaincy of Imran Khan won its first World Cup thirty-one years ago.

“Winning the 1992 World Cup is one of my fondest childhood memories,” documentary director Adnan Sarwar told Aaj News. “It was a rare unifying moment for our country that allowed us to be proud of ourselves.”

The documentary is produced by Neena Kashif and it includes interviews of almost all the players of the time.

For Sarwar, it is a special project. The documentary film was an opportunity for him to interact with his childhood heroes and preserve a historical event for future generations.

In the film, all the players will be seen speaking about the memorable moments including the good and bad performances of the Pakistan team during the World Cup. Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Inzamamul Haq, Moin Khan, and Mushtaq Ahmed are among the top names featured in the docu-series.

The documentary begins by setting the stage for Pakistan’s participation in the mega event, highlighting the team’s early struggles and setbacks. As the tournament progresses, viewers witness the team’s determination, resilience, and extraordinary camaraderie.

Nina Kashif, producer of the documentary, said: “I actually wonder why no one has dared to do this before. A few commercial brands have tried to do something like this in a short form, however, making a documentary on the subject has not been attempted before.”

Through in-depth interviews with the players, the docuseries captures their personal experiences, emotions, and reflections during the World Cup campaign. The former players will also be seen speaking about the controversies and speculations of that time.

The docu-series further sheds light on the team’s determination and support to give the country its first title.

The series was available for free on the platform so that every Pakistani can “relive one of the greatest moments” in the country’s cricket history, said Tapmad Project Head Ahsan Raza Firdousi told Aaj News.

“This documentary is a love letter for cricket, which is the biggest passion of Pakistan,” he said.
