Guru is a character that shows the spirit of sacrifice, courage and love. And this is the essence of the drama as people now want to see different stories.

This is what the lead actor of intersex drama Ali Rehman Khan told Aaj News in an interview as he met with bloggers and journalists. Khan’s side shot picture with a dupatta on the head made rounds on social media before his drama was launched on the Express TV entertainment channel.

The drama redefines the concept of love with a different and engaging story with some beautifully written characters and connections, and some impressive performances.

“There are so many stories in society that we don’t know. There are so many heroes in our society,” he said. Khan has all the looks for the conventional lead character where the protagonist fights for his love interest in family dramas.

Khan, an ethnic Pashtun, made his acting debut in television with a leading role in the Hum TV’s romantic drama series Rishtay Kuch Adhooray Se in 2013. He has also acted in movies.

In the brief chat, he also spoke about his character and how he delved into the character. “The character is different. I did a lot of research before playing the role of an intersex because I wanted my character to be so authentic that it looks close to reality.”

When asked about the reaction to his role, Khan said: “I never thought about what people would say. Well, a topic like this might get a reaction on social media, but I don’t care,” Khan said.

The drama is directed by Bilawal Hussain Abbasi and produced by Shazia Wajahat, and Wajahat Rauf. The cast of this drama series has Khan, Zhalay Sarhadhi, Hira Khan, and Umar Alam playing important roles.

“For me, acting is always a challenge because every role I play is different from luck,” Sarhadi told Aaj News as she spoke about her character.

“Something that negates your personal character is always difficult and in the age of social media, what is good is praised for what is different, and what is different is criticised,” she said.

She went on to add that the fans demanded new stories, which should be different from mother-in-law and daughter-in-law stories. “Because the dramas we were running are not popular among the fans.”
