Rain was reported in parts of Karachi on Thursday, breaking the spell of heatwave-like conditions in the city. Showers were reported in Gadap Town, New Karachi, Bahria Town Phase III and IV.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rain/wind-thundershower with isolated heavy falls in many parts of Sindh, including Karachi, on July 7 and July 8.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraza told a private news channel earlier in the day that Karachi would not have showers like Lahore where rainwater flooded houses and left residents trapped.

The Met Office has warned that heavy rain may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Lahore and might trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan and hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 4 to July 7.

Moreover, heavy falls might cause flash floods in hill torrent areas of DG Khan and adjoining areas of northeast Balochistan from July 6 to July 8.

The PMD has advised farmers to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast. While tourists have been advised to remain extra cautious to avoid any untoward situation during the wet spell.

“Loose structures like electric poles, solar panels etc may damage during dust storm/wind-thunderstorm & heavy falls and the general public is advised to stay at safe places during the per.”
