Vehicles barred from entering Muree as police cope with tourist influx

Thousands arrived at the hill station during Eid holidays

Islamabad: To control the influx of tourists on Eid, Rawalpindi Police has temporarily closed entry to Murree, a popular tourist destination, situated 70 miles away from the capital city.

The Capital Police in Islamabad issued a traffic alert stating that Rawalpindi Police had temporarily closed the entry to Murree. Vehicles are being sent back from The 17 Miles Toll Plaza located between Islamabad and Murree.

The closure has been imposed as a temporary measure to manage the heavy flow of tourists who flocked the hill station during the Eid holidays.

“Citizens are urged to plan their travel accordingly based on this information,” the ICT police said in a statement.

The police further emphasized that officers from the Capital Police in Islamabad were present on the entry and exit routes to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate the residents of the city.

The decision to restrict entry from Murree temporarily aims to regulate the number of tourists visiting the area and ensure the smooth functioning of the local infrastructure.

This step is taken to avoid any inconvenience caused to the residents and maintain a manageable tourist flow.

A weather forecast earlier on Saturday said that the hill station was likely to receive rain in the evening or overnight.

Muree is a popular and easily acceptable tourist attraction for people living in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

However, the influx of vehicles leads to traffic woes as the hill station could only accommodate a maximum of 8,000 vehicles.
