On Saturday morning, a car-borne man and woman drove to Karachi’s Jinnah Hospital apparently from an area near Punjab Chowrangi. They brought a casualty, which was declared dead after doctors did the check-up. The duo left, leaving the body at the infirmary.

The deceased was identified as Ayesha, 20, from Punjab’s Sheikhupura. Suspected to die of drug abuse, she was TikToker from the province where many youngsters have become influencers for their short videos.

As the case unfolds, the initial information said that she was living in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar for the past six months.

“I have just arrived in Karachi from Punjab via flight,” Nusrat Sobia, the mother-in-law of Ayesha, told Aaj News. “I arrived in Karachi after seeing the news of Ayesha on media.”

The distressed mother was at the Shahrah-e-Faisal’s Chippa morgue for the body. She said that Ayesha had spoken about going to a birthday party last night.

But sources within the police claimed that the victim was purportedly at a bungalow in Karachi’s Defence area.

Ayesha apparently died of drug abuse, said the police. But police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed Tariq has refrained from reaching any conclusion till the chemical report was received.

The police came to know about the case after the hospital administration informed them. When they came at the hospital to start the investigation, the CCTV footage cleared the events to some extent. It showed that the vehicle that brought the body was seen outside the Emergency Department.

This helped the investigators to know that the body was brought by a man and woman, who came in a car. The man was identified as Jibran and the girl was identified as Sehrish.

The video shows the car arrived at the emergency at 7:28am, and the man and woman were seen with the body on the stretcher. They were also seen talking to the hospital’s staff.

According to sources, the girl got sick during a dance party, and Jibran and Sehrish, who bought her to the hospital, were also present there.

The contact number they shared was also powered off and police suspect that the address they shared with the hospital was also fake.

The address is of a bungalow located in Punjab Chowrangi.

The police reached the house of the owner of the vehicle after collecting details of the vehicle used in the incident.

The owner of the car told the police that the car was rented, and also told the address of renting the car, after which the police team left for the stated address.

Footage showed Sherish and Jibran fleeing from the hospital after Ayesha sadly passed away, sources said.

The body’s postmortem has been completed, police surgeon Dr Summaiya told Aaj News. “The cause of death was not immediately determined.”

Organs of the deceased have been preserved for quantitative analysis to determine the cause of death, she said, adding that there were no visible marks on the body.

The police have claimed to have obtained the fingerprints of the deceased and were making efforts to know her identity through the ‘Talash’ mobile application – made to tackle street crimes.

“A postmortem report will be prepared in the light of the quantitative analysis report. The cause of death will be determined in the post-mortem report,” she said.

With the help of fingerprints, the CPLC officials said the real identity of the deceased and the information of the family would also be received.

While police were yet to find the cause of Ayesha’s death, her mother-in-law has claimed to be “oblivious” to any such habits.

The mother-in-law has not contacted her son so far, adding that she would know more after visiting the police station. She refused to identify the people seen in the CCTV footage.

“My son Adil drives and is addicted to drugs,” Sobia said and added that she was aware of her daughter being a TikToker. “I don’t know about Ayesha’s [drug] addiction.”
