Cyclone Biparjoy: K-Electric establishes emergency response cell

KE has instructed staff to remain on high alert during emergency situation

The K-Electric has established an emergency response cell to address the complaints of Karachi residents, as the province braces for cyclone Biparjoy which is approximately 400 km away from Karachi.

“The purpose of the emergency cell is to address issues related to infrastructure and transmission,” said KE spokesperson Imran Rana on Tuesday. “If any citizen notices a utility pole being damaged or a loose wire that may cause harm, they can inform K-Electric, and the staff will respond immediately.”

The KE has instructed the staff to remain on high alert during this emergency situation. They are also in communication with the management of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, relevant government bodies, and civic administrations.

Citizens can contact 118 or reach out to K-Electric’s social media platforms for updates on regional faults, the spokesperson said.

“Every possible precautionary measure is being taken to mitigate the effects of the cyclone,” Rana added.

The spokesperson stated that low-lying areas have been identified by government agencies and civic administrations. The power supply may be temporarily cut off in these areas due to potential flooding for safety reasons.

As a precautionary measure, people are advised to stay away from power lines and trees during strong winds and rain. Consumers are also encouraged to stay indoors during the cyclone.

“Post-cyclone, a plan has been developed for water evacuation from potentially affected areas by the city administration, along with a plan for the safe transmission of electricity by K-Electric,” he added.
