The effects of cyclone Biparjoy has started to appear on the coasts of Mumbai as the city is witnessing high tides on sea view.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone will bring thunderstorms and strong wind to Gujarat in the next five days as it is likely to pass at a distance of 200-300 km from the Porbandar coast.

Light rain in Naliya town of Kachchh district as very severe cyclonic storm ‘Biparjoy’ continues to move towards Gujarat coast.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a review meeting yesterday (Monday) after Cyclone Biparjoy intensified into a “very severe cyclonic form”. Cyclone Biparjoy is scheduled to hit Gujarat on Thursday.

The storm is very likely to cross Saurashtra and some other adjoining Pakistani coasts between Mandovi and Karachi near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, flight operations in Mumbai were also affected last evening due to the cyclone in the Arabian Sea.

Heavy rains and strong winds were reported in the city as the intensity of the storm increased.
