The PML-N would contest the general elections on its symbol without an electoral alliance with any party of the ruling coalition, PML-N Senator Afnan Ullah Khan said on Monday.

“There is a possibility of seat adjustment with other parties on some seats based on the local dynamics. But we will go in the general elections with our symbol,” he said on Aaj News show Faisla Aap Ka hosted by Shaukat Piracha.

He claimed that the PML-N would “easily” win the upcoming general elections after the disintegration of the PTI in the wake of the May 9 riots.

When asked about the time of the elections, Khan replied that polls would be held in October or November. “Although Parliament has the right to delay elections for six months, it did not exercise that right and the election will be held on time.”

He was of the view that the newly launched Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) was not a threat to PML-N in Punjab. The Jehangir Tareen Khan-led party has the old faces of PTI as officer bearers that many believe has broked the former ruling party vote bank.

Another guest on the show, PPP MPA from Sindh Nawab Taimur Talpur said that before the events of May 9, all the parties of the coalition government did not seem to be on one page regarding the elections.

“The leaders of both PML-N and PPP now agree on holding the elections on time. I do not see it being delayed. The delay is not in favour of the PPP nor it is good for Pakistan,” he added.

Former president of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association Shoaib Shaheen claimed that the IPP has been launched to dent the PTI’s vote bank, which has increased despite the electable leaving the PTI.

He was of the view that the electables, who left the PTI, would face defeat in polls. “These electables are planned to contest elections only to cut the PTI’s vote bank,” Shaheen added.

The ex-president of IHCBA said that the PPP would set an “undemocratic precedent” if it resolves to “lota politics” in the Karachi mayor’s election.
