Old PTI faces become Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party office holders
Jahangir Tareen announced the names of main office bearers of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party on Monday, all of whom were until recently affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
“I am pleased to announce Abdul Aleem Khan as the President of Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party,” Tareen wrote on Twitter.
Aleem Khan was a visible face of the party and active in its Lahore chapter. He also contested multiple elections on PTI’s ticket until he fell out with Imran Khan.
Tareen also announced that Aamir Kiyani would be secretary general of the new party. Kiyani was health minister and president of PTI’s north Punjab chapter until he resigned from the party following the events of May 9. He had initially said he would leave politics altogether but joined the IPP at its founding.
Awn Chaudhry has been announced as the party’s additional secretary general and spokesperson of the party and the patron-in-chief. Awn was a close aide of Imran Khan and was regularly seen aorund him, but their paths parted as Jahangir Tareen had a falling out with Imran Khan.
The patron-in-chief post is held by Jahangir Khan Tareen himself, since anyone disqualified by the court from electoral politics cannout hold office in a political party.
Tareen announced his new party on June 8, as defections from PTI continued in the wake of the crackdown after May 9.
