The mother of slain journalist Arshad Sharif has asked the Supreme Court to include five people in the investigation including the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

In an application submitted to the court on Thursday, Sharif’s mother has asked the court to make five people part of the investigation because they have made claims about the journalist with ‘certainty’.

“It is a matter of record that so many persons have been found claiming about the persons who are involved in the conspiracy and execution of the murder,” the application reads.

The people include Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s chairman, PTI leader Murad Saeed, former PTI leader Faisal Vawda, CEO ARY Salman Iqbal, and journalist Imran Riaz Khan.

“In order to conclude fair investigation it is incumbent upon the JIT to examine these persons making claims to this effect,” the application says.

Sharif’s mother has also said that she has been ‘kept in the dark’ about the findings of the fact-finding inquiry and the joint investigation team.

She has also told the court that the investigation has to be carried out in Pakistan in the first instance where the ‘conspiracy’ of the murder was hatched.

Arshad Sharif was killed in Kenya in October last year. The police had initially described the killing as a case of ‘mistaken identity’.

However, noise for an investigation inside Pakistan soon grew after claims that Arshad had left Pakistan after fearing for his life. Suo motu notice of the case was taken and a joint investigation team was formed which even went to Kenya to ascertain facts. However, the case is far from concluded.
