The annual development budget for three provinces of the country exceeded its limit during the ongoing fiscal year by almost Rs400 billion.

The Annual Plan Coordination Committee said that the total development budget for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh had been set at Rs1,692 billion but it ended up exceeding Rs2,000 billion.

The budget for Punjab had been set at Rs619 billion originally, but rose to Rs712 billion through later additions. The additions included Rs54 billion in foreign aid.

Punjab is likely to get Rs426 billion in the next budget under the Annual Development Program head. Money will be issued for 120 days of the caretaker government.

The development budget for Sindh in the previous budget had originally been set at Rs424 billion but rose to Rs 442 through later additions. Sindh is likely to get Rs617 billion for development project in the next budget.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the only province where development budget actually decreased from the original allocation.

The budget had originally been set at Rs376 billion but was later revised to Rs373 billion. The allocation in the upcoming budget is likely to be Rs268 billion.

Balochistan had been give Rs207 billion in the previous budget, of which Rs150 billion will be utilised in the current month. The province is likely to get a slight bump in the development budget in the next fiscal year with an allocation of Rs 248 billion.

The budget for the next fiscal year is likely to be presented on June 9.
