Murtaza Wahab is PPP’s pick for Karachi mayor slot
The PPP has nominated Barrister Murtaza Wahab as a candidate for Karachi mayor, along with Salman Abdullah Murad as his deputy of the metropolitan.
“I have full faith that Mr. Shoro & Mr. Wahab will be the first but not the last PPP mayors of our two great cities,” PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari tweeted on Monday. “A special thank you to Hyderabad & Karachi for trusting us for the first time.”
He said this after PPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro announced the names of party candidates for local government chairmen and vice chairmen elections in Sindh in a press conference at the Bilawal House in Karachi. He was flanked by party leaders.
Although the Sindh-ruling party could not secure a single majority after the LG elections, it claims that the PTI UC chairmen will not vote for the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Karachi mayor seat.
Bilawal congratulated all PPP nominees. “The people have expressed faith in the PPP. Now let’s go win the next round and get going with what we do best, serving the people,” he said.
Wahab, who has served as the Karachi administrator in the past, thanked the party leadership for nominating him for the coveted slot.
Kashif Shoro has been nominated for the mayor seat of Hyderabad. Saghir Qureshi is nominated for the slot of vice mayor of Hyderabad.
The party has nominated Arslan Sheikh for the mayor slot of Sukkur Corporation, along with Doctor Arshad Mughal as his deputy.
For Benazirabad, Qazi Rasheed has been nominated for the mayor slot by the PPP; Mubashir Arain is nominated for the role of deputy mayor.
After being delayed multiple times, the LG elections were held on January 15, in which PPP emerged as the biggest winner, followed by JI, while PTI remained a distant third.
PPP leaders were of the view of the process of the election of mayor would be completed by June 16.
