Travelling on motorways in Pakistan is about moving without obstructions all the way to your destinations. A part of that convenience is the M-Tag, which lets you pass through a toll plaza without working through a queue and waiting for the cashier.

However, the good balance/express lanes are now operator less and the National Highway Authority has introduced new measures to make sure these lanes do not get clogged.

The M-Tag is an RFID tag fitted on your vehicle’s windscreen that lets tax get deducted automatically as you pass through a dedicated lane.

Authorities have announced that credit card and cash facilities will not be available in the express lane anymore.

Vehicles that do not have the tag or are low on credit will not be allowed into the express lances anymore, and will have to use the ordinary lanes which only accept cash.

Authorities have also announced that ‘hefty’ fines will be imposed not only on vehicles travelling in the express lane without an M-Tag but also on M-Tag users running low on credit. The fine will be imposed under article 48 of the the National Highways Safety Ordinance 2000.

To recharge your credit before you set off on your journey, you can download the One Network app from your phone’s play store.
