President Alvi stabbed Imran in the back: Vawda

Says the president burnt Imran's bridge with the establishment

Former PTI leader Faisal Vawda said that President Arif Alvi had stabbed Imran Khan in the back and had not played his proper role as supreme commander of the country’s forces.

Speaking to Asma Shirazi in Faisla Aap Ka on Aaj News, Vawda spoke at length about his account of how the £190 million case went through the cabinet and why Imran Khan was in his current predicament.

Answering a question about whether President Alvi had played his role in bridging the gap between establishment and Imran Khan, Vawda said that the president had actually burnt the bridge between the two parties.

“He stabbed Imran Khan in the back instead of playing his role as supreme commander,” Vawda said, referring to President Alvi.

“Snake would be a small word, he acted as a python,” he said.

Vawda also questioned why President Alvi had signed the recent Supreme Court Review act into law if he was an ‘ideological’ worker of Imran Khan’s party.

“Some people owe their political careers to Imran Khan but they forget that,” he said.

Some of Imran’s aides were playing both sides: Vawda

Answering a question regarding who was responsible for the downfall of PTI, Vawda said that the former prime minister had been ‘surrounded’ by a close ring of advisors who had led him to the current situation.

“If 19 out of 20 people tell you a wall is black, you will be inclined to believe them,” he said, adding that Imran Khan had people whispering in his ear day and night.

“Even kings were led to ruin through bad advice.”

However, Vawda appeared to single out Asad Umar, without explicitly naming him, as one of the main people allegedly giving Imran Khan bad advice. He said that the man who had caused PTI to nosedive through dealing with IMF was playing both sides.

However, Mosharraf Zaidi objected to the blame being put on advisors.

“Who appointed these advisors in the first place?” Mosharraf asked. “Blame the army all you want, but the main reason for PTI’s decline is Imran Khan.”
